Green Tea
Population studies in Japan have shown health benefits
derived from regular consumption of Green Tea (Camellia sinensis).
These benefits are due to the presence of polyphenols such as
epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) - the primary substance responsible for Green Tea's powerful
antioxidant protection in the body.
Nature's Way standardized Green Tea low caffeine extract offers the highest
concentration of these important plyphenols, with a guaranteed level
of 50% EGCG.

NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) -- Extracts of green tea may make strains of drug-resistant bacteria more sensitive to penicillin, British researchers report.
It has long been known both black and green teas have antibacterial properties, according to a report in the August issue of the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
"The antimicrobial activity of tea (an aqueous extract of Camellia sinensis) was recognized 90 years ago," reported Dr. J.M.T. Hamilton-Miller and colleagues, of the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London, UK.
In the new study, Hamilton-Miller's group added green tea extracts to different strains of antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria growing on laboratory dishes containing benzylpenicillin. Staphylococcus aureus commonly causes skin infections and abscesses.
The researchers found that after treatment with the tea extract, many of these strains showed reversal of penicillin resistance, instead showing increased sensitivity to the antibiotic.
The investigators also found that diluted tea extract acted synergistically with antibiotics, making them more potent against particular strains of S. aureus.
The researchers believe that the two activities may be the action of a single compound. Purification of the tea extracts "yielded several fractions, one of which contained a virtually pure compound that showed the above-mentioned activities," they report.
Although other compounds have similar activity to those seen in tea, little is known about their toxicity, Hamilton-Miller's group notes.
"Tea, on the other hand is self-renewable resource and the beverage has been drunk ...for hundreds of years by billions of people without any harmful effects -- rather the reverse in fact," the team concludes.
